Found something someone else has lost? Here's how to do it right — in four steps.

1. 1. Valuables and electronics → the police

   Money, valuable jewellery, electronics, and expensive clothing must always be handed to the police — regardless of which venue found them.

2. 2. Other items → hand them in where you found them

   Found something in a shop, a train, an airport, or somewhere else? Hand it in there. Since 2021, the venue must keep it for at least 30 days before they may sell, give away, or discard it.

3. 3. Still got it? Register it — and we'll look for the owner

   Did you find it somewhere with no lost-and-found desk — on the street, in a park, on the beach? Register it here so the owner can find you. Remember: valuables always go to the police (step 1) — and you can always choose to hand found items in at the police. Your contact details are never shown publicly.

   Search for the place where you found the item to see how to contact them.
